Jay Short Insurance is a father & daughter insurance team, serving Durango since 1986.

Jay Short

I graduated from Fort Lewis College a long time ago and managed to build my life and career here in Durango. My wife, Sally Short, and I have two grown children- Merida and Dane, and a new granddaughter Juniper. As one of the most respected Health Insurance Brokers in town, I represent hundreds of individuals and dozens of group plans. The majority of my business is referral based. As an outdoor enthusiast you can find me out on the bike trails, on the river kayaking, or up on the slopes during my free time.

Merida Odiorne

Born and raised right here in Durango, I love working with my family business. I graduated from Fort Lewis College with a double major in Spanish and Sustainable Development in 2003. I became licensed to sell Life and Health Insurance in 2005 and joined my father’s Agency. My husband Bruce and I absolutely love spending time outdoors on two wheels or skis with our daughter Juniper. I am an owner of the agency, an active member in the community, and appreciate our long standing client relationships.

Forrest Jones

Born and raised in Santa Fe New Mexico, I have been a resident of the southwest my entire life, Settling in Durango in 1990 to attend Fort Lewis College. I majored in Business Administration at Fort Lewis College & married my college sweetheart Shona. Thanks to her I am a dedicated family man and the father of two young men. I have been a business owner and outdoor sports enthusiast all my life. The opportunity to work with Jay and Merida was an opportunity not to be missed as they share similar life values. Through my life I have participated in many outdoor activities- I enjoy time on a bicycle, on the snow, in whitewater and with wind sports. I am active in local charitable organizations and enjoy giving back to the community and helping those in need.

Thank you for your inquiry. We are happy to answer questions and provide quotes for Health and Life Insurance. Health Insurance enrollments may be limited to certain enrollment periods, including the annual open enrollment period every January and other special enrollment periods for when you have “life changing events” like losing your prior coverage due to loss of employment, getting married, having a baby, moving….things like that. Businesses are eligible to establish a new employer plan anytime throughout the year. We are certified brokers through Connect For Health Colorado.
